Crafting The Seasons At Liberty

Hi friends! How are you? Apologies for the massive gap in blogging – for some reason I have a huge pile of work that has been growing and growing, which of course is a good thing really, but it does mean that my blogging is a little behind schedule. {Who am I kidding? I don’t really have a written schedule…} But I’m back now to tell you all about a fabulous ‘crafting the seasons’ crafternoon I attended recently, which will hopefully inspire you to do some Christmas crafting! Have you been watching Liberty of London on Channel 4 recently? If not, get thee to 4OD now. It gives such a fun sneak behind the scenes into this iconic London store; it’s a weekly treat! For me, any trip I make to central London is made all the more fun if it involves a trip to Liberty. I could {and do} spend hours wandering around the store, being inspired by the unique space and gorgeous edit of products. While the fashion floor is a tad out of budget for me, my must-visit Liberty departments are the flower stall {which always provides plenty of Instagram-worthy shots}, the stationery department and the haberdashery, where I often while away the time swooning over the many amazing Liberty print fabrics.

So when I was invited by the lovely Katy from Apartment Apothecary and Charlotte from Lotts and Lots to celebrate Styling the Seasons, by getting our craft on at Liberty there was only one answer. As you probably know, Styling the Seasons is the most lovely idea that encourages us all to celebrate the changing seasons by styling surfaces in our homes each month. I know that so often the surfaces in my home go unloved and unchanged, so it’s nice to be more intentional about changing them up. It’s been so fun to follow the hashtag too {#stylingtheseasons} to see the many different interpretations of the season. Speaking of which, I’ve just restyled my bedside table, so watch this space for my November styling the seasons entry – better late than never!

Look at the invite that fell through my letterbox – so sweet! I fear that Katy and Charlotte have started a collection I now need to complete…

Just look at the amazing space that was waiting for us ready to get crafty…

Before I show you a few more of the lovely photos, all taken by the amazingly talented Katharine Peachey,  I’d also like to say a BIG thank you to Katy and Charlotte for organising this fun gathering, and also to Hannah and Anna at Liberty for hosting us and for being so incredibly generous with the Liberty fabrics and the goodie bags. The Heritage suite was stunning, and all the Christmas decorations around the room brought such cheer. It was also so lovely to meet Kate from The Homemakery, who kindly brought along lots of gorgeous craft materials for our creations.

Once I’d got over my initial craft mind-block, I eased into the afternoon, joyfully sifting through the Liberty print fabric and craft materials while deciding what to make. It was also so inspiring seeing what the other ladies were making – there was everything from Christmas wreaths, to fabric covered baubles to sweet Christmas gnomes being made. I was surrounded by some jolly talented folk! In the end I made a few little pieces, including a little embroidery hoop decoration, pictured below. I’ll show you a better photo of it in my December styling the seasons post, along with a simple tutorial as it really was quick and easy and perfect for people who aren’t confident with sewing {like me!}.
